Medifast Diet Review

metifast man There are a lot of weight loss programs that even college students have tried. You have most likely heard of the big ones that advertise, such as Hydroxycut and others. Have you ever heard of Medifast? Medifast has been prescribed by doctors for many years as a weight loss plan, and is only now available without a prescription online. It is grown immensely in its popularity as a plan that works significantly in helping you lose weight. Is it safe for the college student? How much does it cost? I will answer these questions and explain how Medifast works with your body. After this, we may change those eating habits of funnions and Red Bull over homework.

How Medifast works

The Medifast weight loss model is based around meal replacements coupled with real food. The most popular plan is Medifast’s “5 and 1” which is made up of 5 meal replacements per day. These replacements are usually shakes, but there are other options such as soups, bars, puddings, and other things. One meal per day is a “real” meal and is considered “lean and green”. It consists of a lean protein like chicken and then a salad and vegetables. For most college students this isn’t a traditional meal, but it should be, and can make those tiring nights of homework a lot better. The 5 and 1 plan lasts for 4 weeks.

You eat every 2-3 hours which keeps you from getting hungry. What the meal replacements do is force the body to get its energy from stored fat, instead of the food you eat. The replacements also contain tons of vitamins and elements that go into your blood stream and help your liver break down some of the fatty acids in your body. They have huge names so I wont mention them, but they promote a healthy metabolism, liver, and process. It is important to drink a lot of water while on Medifast. The minimum recommendation by Medifast creators, is 64 fl oz. of water per day.

The speed of Medifast weight loss

One of the most exciting and attractive things about Medifast is the speed in which you begin to see results. The weight loss happens quickly. Medifast boasts 2-5 lbs. per week, with the same amount lost the first week as the 4th. This means on average about 20 pounds is lost in a month. Though the diet is somewhat “low calorie” it is not a “starvation” diet. The calories are between 800 – 1000, so you are getting most of your daily needs. However a college student needs more than the average adult so look for other ways to increase this amount. On Medifast your body gets its fuel from stored fat, so some people may feel a lack of energy. This is normal and your body should get used to the meal supplements after the first week.

Medifast weight loss meal replacements

There are different kinds of meal replacements to choose from with Medifast. There are supplement bars with names such as chocolate divine, or crunchy lemon. There are also options such as soups like delicate chicken or robust tomato or food supplements like home-style chili and chocolate pudding. There are more options than I listed, and Medifast gives you a wide array of things you can supplement in place of a meal every 2-3 hours. It’s not boring like many diet plans that have you drink the same shake, or eat the same meal over and over again.

The cost of Medifast

The Medifast 5 and 1 plan is the most popular and is a 4 week process. On the Medifast website there are a few pricing options that will cost around $275 dollars with more enhanced plans getting up in to the $350 range. Very similar to the price of nutrisystem. This is for all the meal replacements etc… so you are getting 5 for every day which is why the cost may seem high. It is worth the money if you are looking for an effective way to lose weight. Every body type is different and reacts differently to various diets. Medifast is highly rated among people who have tried it and a safe alternative to some of the harsher weight loss programs out there. The Medifast diet is one of many, but better than most.

Medifast is by far the best weight loss program I’ve ever tried! I love it, and although I’ve bumped myself out of ketosis several time due to a birthday party, family reunion, and a concert, I’ve still lost 25 lbs. and 2 pant sizes, in less than 2 months! I can’t wait to lose the other 35 lbs. that I have to lose! And, because of all of the nutrients I’m getting, my nails are growing like crazy! It takes dedication, but it’s so worth it. It has changed the way I look at food! And, the people that say you’ll gain all the weight back, obviously missed the whole point of this plan. You can’t go back to eating the way you did before Medifast, and you have to exercise! It’s a lifestyle change!! If you’re desperate, try it, and remember that it takes about 3-5 days to enter ketosis, but once you’re there, you ARE NOT HUNGRY!!! Which, for me, is a wonderful thing:)

Just a couple tips. Get a health coach. I was losing weight very SLOW until I got a health coach (miofit.com) that could help me through the barriers of weight loss.’

I also couldn’t afford Medifast, but I found coupons code online that helped. Medifastcoupons.net showed me how to double coupons so I was able to save $85 off of a $275 purchase!!! That made a 1 month supply only $190! So much better!

Great article though. Thanks.

Sandra, you can use a coach from anywhere. Consults can be done over the phone. I am a certified health coach with Take Shape for Life, which is a subsidiary of Medifast. You may email me if interested. Coaching services are included with the purchase of food through my website portal. Good luck!
