Zecco The Best Broker For Students?

Zecco is an online brokerage firm that launched with the shiny lure of “free trades”. It soon became 10 free trades a month with a $2500 balance and recently is now 10 free trades a month with a $25,000 balance.

So, for students, who 99% don’t have a 25K brokerage account, is Zecco still a good option?

Yes, but not for the free trades.

I have my account at Zecco (under 25K) and I use it for a number of things:

• Getting stock ideas from the community (there is a social aspect to the site. You can share stock trade ideas with other members)
• Quotes – Free realtime quotes. Level II quotes for a small fee
• Cheap Trades – $4.50 a trade. Not quite free. But really darn close.

So for the frugal student who wants to try out trading…I’d definitly recommend Zecco. It only takes about 10 minutes to setup your account (have your Driver’s Licsense handy), and can be done completely online. No papers or faxes to send in.
